Online
Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
The days of the card catalogue are almost gone!
Today's catalogue is fully digital, making it easier and faster to find out what material

to search our catalogue online from home, the library or anywhere in the
world.

Internet
access, available FREE for one hour sessions at the Ingham Library and half
hour sessions at Halifax Library. Take
a look at our Search the Web page. Find
some useful search engines and tips on
searching.

Word Processing
facilities are available for use in the library.
Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint
and Excel are available at the library FREE....you only pay for any
printing you do.USB Flash
drives are required if work needs to be saved. (Floppy dives are no longer
available on our computers).

Inter-library Loans
are
available on request. If the request is made to the State
Library of Queensland or to one of the public libraries
participating in the Queensland Union Catalogue project no charge will be imposed.
The public can access the State Library
Catalogue but requests have t be placed by your local library. Charges may be required though if requests have to be
made to other libraries. |

Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE Library
Resources may be requested through the Shire Library. Links to this catalogue are
provided on this site and a terminal connected to the TAFE Library Catalogue is also
permanently available at the Ingham Library. The Barrier
Reef Institute of TAFE Library website shows all the library
locations throughout North Queensland, the services and opening hours.

now available for loan as well as VIDEOS (both movies and documentaries)

The Ingham Library houses the Local History Collection,
includes historic photos of the Herbert River District, news clippings, local history
books and other information. Historical Photographs of the local area as well as
Thuringowa, the Burdekin, Bowen and Charters Towers are also available on CD ROM for
searching and printouts

The Kennedy Regiment Library a collection of
books, file, photographs etc concerning the history of the 31st Battalion (The Kennedy
Regiment) and Australian military history generally. |
Holiday
Activities
for children

| Both
the Ingham and Halifax
libraries conduct FREE craft activity sessions each week during the school
holidays for children aged 4yrs and above. Bookings are required as
numbers are limited, phone the Ingham Library on 47764683. All craft
material is supplied. Sessions last approximately one hour
|

The Hinchinbrook Community
Languages Collection contains books in Italian, Chinese,
Slovakian, Czech, Spanish, Finnish and Thai. Others
can be ordered from the State Library of Queensland
upon request.
Community
language collections accessible through the State Library of Queensland
The community language
collection consists of approximately 110,000 books in over 55 languages.
The collection is designed to meet the needs of those who wish to read a
language other than English. Materials from the collection are sent
out in bulk to public libraries throughout Queensland. Members of
the public wishing to borrow community language materials need to contact
their local library. This is a free service.

Access
the Internet and Library information in your own language through the
Multilingual Bridge
The
Multilingual
Bridge website has been designed to assist public librarians in
Queensland provide services to you in various community languages. It is
also designed to assist in accessing the State Library of Queensland's
multilingual collection of approximately 100,000 books in over 55
languages.

A Display
Area and Community Noticeboard is available for use by the
community. Simply call the librarian and request a time slot for displays (Days or weeks).
To use the community notice board just ask at the counter, showing us your notice and
we'll endeavour to find space. Every effort will be made to accomodate you. You will also
find a display of information booklets and brochures just outside the
main entrance to the Ingham Library and also at the Halifax Library. Feel free to take
these, they are there for your information. |
Photocopying
Facilities: An A4 photocopy costs 22 cents and A3 is 44 cents. Colour photocopying
is also available, ask library staff for details.

Queensland Public Libraries and the State Library of Queensland are
proud to offer, FREE ONLINE TUTORING.
Connect
to real, live tutors who are experts in their fields and
who are proficient at tutoring school students online. They provide
instant help and tutoring in all main subjects
.

A Homework Help Club
is provided on a weekly basis during school terms, for students working on
assignments. A computer is set aside for students and Black and White
computer printouts and photocopying is FREE.

Queensland Museum
Kits 2007
The Hinchinbrook Shire
Library Service coordinates distribution of he Queensland Museum's Country
Loans Kits for the Hinchinbrook community. Museum Loans bring museum
resources to the heart of Queensland communities. Country
Loans are all object-based themed kits encompassing the areas of natural
history, anthropology, geology, prehistoric life, physiology and social
history with accompanying educational materials.
As many of our borrowers
are from Queensland schools our educational materials combine our
expertise in object-based learning with current Education Queensland
curricula and offer opportunities in all Key Learning Areas. This is a
FREE service to regional and rural Queensland borrowers. Contact your

to request a booking. Subject to availability and demand a booking will be
made and you can arrange collection your kit from the centre within
business hours. Loans can be collected personally, by a nominated
representative or by professional courier.

Story
Time for children
Every Wednesday at 9am
Story Time is conducted at the Ingham Library. Enjoy the stories and craft
and make friends at the same time.

Webzine Can
of Words is an
online civic space for the Hinchinbrook community, encouraging and
supporting the literary and cultural interests of the community and
highlighting local efforts in this field.
Can of Words publishes articles written by residents of the
Hinchinbrook Shire, North Queensland Australia. The focus is on articles
of literary interest but updates from the Arts community and
promotion of the area generally are also included. Teachers are welcome to
submit class work and Students are welcome to submit stories, poems and
other works of art to be placed on the local community webzine. Call us on

Online Databases

| The
State
Library of Queensland provides FREE
access to sophisticated
and in depth online databases for all patrons of Queensland's
Public Libraries. .
These offer users the opportunity to search numerous newspapers, magazines
and academic journals. Most search results provide full text articles that
may be printed, saved or emailed. Library staff will provide free
demonstration for school staff and students upon appointment, phone 4776
4683. You can also be guided through the use of these databases by
collecting a free booklet from either Ingham or Halifax libraries.
