BORROWING FROM THE LIBRARY

Items may be borrowed from the Ingham and Halifax libraries for a period of up to three weeks. 

You must have your borrower card with you when borrowing items.

  • 16 items per member which can only include 2 DVDs per family
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) RENEWALS: All items may be renewed once, by telephone or in person, except if reserved by other borrowers. All items may be renewed once, by telephone or in person, except if reserved by other borrowers.
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) RENEW BY EMAIL - Just click on the email link  CLICK here and email your renewal request. Just give us your Borrower Number (barcode) and leave the rest to us. We will reply with your new Date Due. and give your borrower details. We will renew all items that are able to be renewed. Please remember that if an item is reserved for another patron that we will not be able to renew this item. In such cases we will reply to your email with that information. We will reply with your new Date Due.
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) OVERDUE ITEMS: When an item is not returned by the due date, an overdue fee is charged at the rate of 10 cents per item per day after the due date. You may renew items over the phone to avoid fines building up.
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) LOST & DAMAGED BOOKS: The borrower will be invoiced for the cost of damaged and lost items, so please be careful with all library material.
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) RESERVATIONS & INTER-LIBRARY LOANS: Items may be reserved when they are on loan to another borrower. There is usually no charge for a reservation. Items may also be borrowed from other libraries, although some loans from other libraries do incur a fee. Reserved items and inter-library loans must be collected from the Library within 14 days of notification. We will  notify you via the telephone or we will send a note if we are unable to contact you.

dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). The days of the card catalogue are almost gone! Today's catalogue is fully digital, making it easier and faster to find out what material the library holds. Go to http://www.hinchinbrooklibraries.com.au/ to search our catalogue online from home, the library or anywhere in the world.
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) Internet access, available FREE for one hour sessions at the Ingham Library and half hour sessions at Halifax Library. Take a look at our Search the Web page. Find some useful search engines and tips on searching.
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) Word Processing  facilities are available for use in the library. Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint and Excel are available at the library FREE....you only pay for any printing you do.USB Flash drives are required if work needs to be saved. (Floppy dives are no longer available on our computers).
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) Inter-library Loans are available on request. If the request is made to the State Library of Queensland or to one of the public  libraries participating in the Queensland Union Catalogue project no charge will be imposed. The public can access the State Library Catalogue but requests have t be placed by your local library. Charges may be required though if requests have to be made to other libraries.

dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes)  The Ingham Library houses the Local History Collection, includes historic photos of the Herbert River District, news clippings, local history books and other information. Historical Photographs of the local area as well as Thuringowa, the Burdekin, Bowen and Charters Towers are also available on CD ROM for searching and printouts
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) The Kennedy Regiment Library a collection of books, file, photographs etc concerning the history of the 31st Battalion (The Kennedy Regiment) and Australian military history generally.

dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) The Hinchinbrook Community Languages Collection contains books in Italian, Chinese, Slovakian, Czech, Spanish, Finnish and Thai. Others can be ordered from the State Library of Queensland upon request.

Community language collections accessible through the State Library of Queensland 

The community language collection consists of approximately 110,000 books in over 55 languages.  The collection is designed to meet the needs of those who wish to read a language other than English.  Materials from the collection are sent out in bulk to public libraries throughout Queensland.  Members of the public wishing to borrow community language materials need to contact their local library.  This is a free service.

Access the Internet and Library information in your own language through the Multilingual Bridge

 The Multilingual Bridge website has been designed to assist public librarians in Queensland provide services to you in various community languages. It is also designed to assist in accessing the State Library of Queensland's multilingual collection of approximately 100,000 books in over 55 languages.

dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes)  A Display Area and Community Noticeboard is available for use by the community. Simply call the librarian and request a time slot for displays (Days or weeks). To use the community notice board just ask at the counter, showing us your notice and we'll endeavour to find space. Every effort will be made to accomodate you. You will also find a display of information booklets and brochures just outside the main entrance to the Ingham Library and also at the Halifax Library. Feel free to take these, they are there for your information.
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes)  Photocopying Facilities: An A4 photocopy costs 25 cents and  A3 is 50 cents. Colour photocopying is also available, ask library staff for details.

Connect to real, live tutors who are experts in their fields and who are proficient at tutoring school students online. They provide instant help and tutoring in all main subjects

dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes)  A Homework Help Club is provided on a weekly basis during school terms, for students working on assignments. A computer is set aside for students and Black and White computer printouts and photocopying is FREE.
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) Story Time for children Every Wednesday at 9am Story Time is conducted at the Ingham Library. Enjoy the stories and craft and make friends at the same time.
dotpnt1.gif (955 bytes) Webzine Can of Words is an online civic space for the Hinchinbrook community, encouraging and supporting the literary and cultural interests of the community and highlighting local efforts in this field. Can of Words publishes articles written by residents of the Hinchinbrook Shire, North Queensland Australia. The focus is on articles of  literary interest but updates from the Arts community and promotion of the area generally are also included. Teachers are welcome to submit class work and Students are welcome to submit stories, poems and other works of art to be placed on the local community webzine. The State Library of Queensland provides FREE access to sophisticated and in depth online databases for all patrons of Queensland's Public Libraries. . These offer users the opportunity to search numerous newspapers, magazines and academic journals. Most search results provide full text articles that may be printed, saved or emailed. Library staff will provide free demonstration for school staff and students upon appointment, phone 4776 4614. You can also be guided through the use of these databases by collecting a free booklet from either Ingham or Halifax libraries.
