| ORAL HISTORY |
 |
During 2000 the Hinchinbrook Shire Library
undertook to begin recording oral histories of local residents. The interviews were
conducted with a small group of interviewees and were filmed on a digital video recorder.
These funds for the project were gratefully received from the State Library of Queensland,
Innovations Grants. The focus of the project was to record recollections of various facets
of life in the past. Being 2000 and the year the summer Olympic Games were to be held in
Australia for the second time, one of the recordings concerned the participants of the
1956 Olympic Torch Relay as well.
The topics covered include:
- The 1956 Torch Bearers
- Weddings
- Home Life
- Travel and Transport
- Shopping
- Schooldays
Three videos resulted from the project,
each containing two interviews. The videos and a photographic booklet are for sale at the
library.
