Inter library Loans
The Inter-Library Loan Service obtains material for members that is not available from the Hinchinbrook Libraries catalogue. The item may be available from other libraries in Queensland, so in effect, we borrow the item from another library so you can borrow it from us.
Who can use the Inter-library Loan Service?
Any member of the Hinchinbrook Library Service (Ingham or Halifax Branch) is entitled to use the Inter-library Loan Service.
Placing a Request
Before requesting an Inter-Library Loan please check our online catalogue to make sure we don't already have the item required.
A staff member will record your request for an Inter-Library Loan at any of our branches. Alternatively patrons can email a request through to the Library at inghamlibrary@hinchinbrook.qld.gov.au. If using Email please enter clearly in the Subject field of the Email the words "Inter-Library Loan".
Supply as much information as possible in the request.
Formats available on Inter-library Loan
- Books
- Book chapters or journal/newspaper articles (photocopies)
- Reports and conference proceedings
- Audiovisual material including DVDs and CDs (NOTE: some libraries do not lend DVDs or CDs)
Cost
Hinchinbrook Shire Libraries provide Inter-Library Loans free of charge. However some other libraries charge a fee which will be passed on to the patron placing the request. Every effort will be made to obtain material from non-charging libraries. Staff will contact you prior to processing your request if a fee is applicable.
Limits on Inter-library Loans requests
There is no limit on the number of items that may be requested (over the period of your membership), however Inter-library Loans are included in the member's loan limit of 16 items on loan at any one time.
Delivery times, Loan length and Extensions
Delivery times cannot be guaranteed and requests may take between 4 - 6 weeks to be supplied. Processing of the request will be assisted by providing full and accurate details.
Inter-Library Loan items will have a Due Date that is set by the lending library. Please check your loans receipt carefully.
Items borrowed must be returned by the due date. If an extension is required, this must be requested before the due date by contacting your library.
Extensions may be granted on Inter-Library Loan items but this cannot guaranteed. Photocopied articles and book chapters are yours to keep.
Occassionally, when old or rare items are requested, the supplying library will insist that Hinchinbrook Libraries retain the item within the library - in these circumstances you will have to read the material in one of our branches.
Notification
The library will notify you when the material is ready for collection. Please ensure that your postal address details are always current and correct in your Library membership record.
