Our Community
The Hinchinbrook Shire is built around the Herbert River which flows from the Atherton Tablelands to the Hinchinbrook Channel. Hinchinbrook is situated in Tropical North Queensland, Australia, 110kms north of Townsville. The district boasts long tropical beaches, free flowing rivers, iconic waterfalls, easy access to tropical islands and coral reefs, unspoilt wildlife havens within urban wetlands, rugged wilderness and rural areas. The township of Ingham, is the service centre for the shire. The historic village of Halifax is the other major centre, serving the beach and farming areas of the Lower Herbert River district.
The Hinchinbrook Shire Library Service aims to serve the information, recreation and educational needs of the Hinchinbrook community by providing a quality, contemporary library service with easy access to resources.
