Acquisitive Art 2008
Acquisitive
Art turns 30!
The
30th Annual Hinchinbrook Acquisitive Art Competition and
Exhibition presented by the Hinchinbrook Shire Council and the Rotary
Club of Ingham Inc. was held this year at Gallery
Hinchinbrook in the TAFE Complex on
74 Townsville Road
, from Thursday 14th August to Friday 29th August
2008.
The
competition was first held in 1977 when the State Government asked all
local authorities in
Queensland
to donate a work of art to the new Parliament House in
Brisbane
. Hinchinbrook Shire Council decided to hold a competition to acquire a
painting for Parliament House and hence the annual art competition was
born.
Pictured
is the winning entry from the very first competition. By Townsville
Artist Anna Bock, Titled “Coming Home”. The painting is situated
in
Brisbane
’s Parliament House.
Since then there has
been 30 competitions (it was not held in 1978 or 1986 due to remodelling
of the Shire Hall) with the Rotary Club of Ingham Inc. becoming a
co-sponsor in 1979.
The Acquisitive Art competition is proudly sponsored
