Rondeau

The Rondeau consists of 15 lines and just two rhyming sounds. it includes repeats of a phrase or just a single word that carries an idea full circle. It has 13 lines that can be of angle length and metre and two significantly shorter lines. A Rondeau has a circular pattern and concludes with its opening remark. It is split in to three stanzas, but only two rhyming sounds are used throughout.

The, now defunct,  Ingham Writers' Guild attempted writing in this style and have allowed us to publish some of their attempts.

WILD THING

by David Sawkins

Wild Thing, unasked into my life you came.

Once serene flowed my blood, its not the same

Pulsating now my dreams, you changed my way.

Spring, the month of new blooms, my love in May

Lifting me, loving me, I'll play your game.

Weakened am I, wrecked am I, you to blame.

Ignited am I, burnt am I, you the flame.

You sustain me, sweet wine, my daily bread,

Wild Thing.

Once mortal, then bewitched I became

Imprisoned forever, caged in a frame

I, unyielding, your captive always and a day.

Never free me, bind me, seal me, I pray.

Take me, all of me, complete or lame,

Wild Thing.

LETS TALK

by Chris Allen

Like a black hole, absorbing all the light,

You hide your true feelings out of my sight.

Often, I try to get inside your head;

Only more barriers go up instead.

Like a cat and dog, we end up in a fight.

At first I thought it would be alright;

I felt your heartbeat throughout the long night.

Our special love would conquer all, I said,

even a black hole.

Sometimes I look down, as from a great height;

I feel the deep hurt that comes from your slight;

and, deep in my heart, the thing that I dread.

I know. Not just dying, but almost dead,

my love for you. I understand this blight

like a black hole.
