I REALLY NEEDED THAT 75

It was at the Ingham Italian festival when i heard the poet Best

I bought myself a CD of his so I could hear the rest

I liked the style on his CD - his verses right from the heart

His poetry brought a tear to my eye - my life he did recite.

He writes his poetry under Best, but we know him as Bobby McGaw

So I spent my twenty dollars cause I wanted to hear some more

And Mr Andrew Cripps was there at that Saturday morning breakfast

I guess he didn't like my poem but that drug poem classified best.

It's shameful to our Aussie country that we ahve to live like this

While we honour those politicians that live their life in bliss.

The degrading propaganda that they spin within our communities

and their lies, racisim and dishonour - the dereliction of their duties.

I can't afford to enter any more poetry competitions for that elusive money prize

Unfortunately I wish I had of won the money - cause I really needed that 75!

I'M LOVING IT HERE IN NORTH QUEENSLAND OF COURSE

Here I am in North Queensland - it's Ingham and surrounds I'm loving it so

Where the crocodiles are prevalent and in the rivers they do grow

Where the sugarcane bends backwards when the floods are on the go

And the hot sun shines so relentless on its stinging midday run

And the green ants go marching - forming nests in trees - going one by one.

There's a pub on every corner for a coldie - when the farming work is done

And you hear the birds a singing - forming nests on every available bough

And the air raid shelter is still standing - its history is for us a reminder now

The commemorative Keith Payne Botanical Gardens to all our brave men who so generously gave us this -

So that we could all live together - enjoying our life in peace.

Our beaches towards the east - they bring about a wonderful cool sea breeze

That helps us to do our work - with a bit of greater ease

There's Lucinda with its longest wharf - for the export of our sugar from our sweet sugar cane

And towards the west the blue and purple hue from the Great Dividing range

We have Hinchinbrook Island the world's largest National Park

And when those floods come in we think of Noah's ark.

There's fossil's imbedded in rocks that boarder the Botanical Gardens footpath

And the birds that sing in unison perching in the tree as they settle just before dark

Then coming to the spectacular water feature which praises our doctor Gordon Morrissey

And our local heroine Joice NanKivell Loch who we honour for their outstanding charity

Then not forgetting to honour our very own Ray Ypinazar

Who tirelessly gave of himself as a Lions Club member

And there's a little resting place for 100 years service dedicated to C.S.R.

Then in this great town there's our wonderful Rotary Park

And a play area with its colourful sails for our precious children not to burn

as we go about our business hearing their laughter - playing while they learn

Then heading our from Trebonne there's the volcanic crater at Mount Fox

And you can view the Herbert River - in the tiny town of Halifax .

This is the southern gateway to the tropics - an anglers' paradise

And new friendships are formed which is the spice of life.

And Townsville ahs a casino

To through the lucky dice

And the magnificent beaches surrounded by beautiful Palm Islands and Orpheus

The by product molasses - to Townsville the road tankers are heavily laid

From our two historic sugar mills - Victoria and Macknade

We have the black bean tree Australi to commemorate our John Simpson who with others fought in the Boer War

And on Sunday the church bells ring - it's time for church it calls

Then a Sunday drive with nature to the National Park at Wallaman Falls .

It's one of our greatest prizes - world heritage listed - longest sheer drop fall.

There's the cassowary and platypus, lookouts, bushwalks, fresh water swimming and a camping ground too

Then north west of Ingham there's Broadwater State Forest - camping and BBQ.

The clock that stands so proudly in the middle of our town

And the cane toads that are hopping multiplying all around

We have a Barrier Reef TAFE learner’s centre institute

Shire Library, Gallery - all this in Hinchinbrook.

Not forgetting the Herbert River District - our very own brass band.

There's the J.L. Kelly Memorial Picture Theatre - it also take s pride of stand

And the green frogs croak so loudly when large drops of rain appear

And to our outstanding football cowboys - to them we give a cheer

Then the echo of the siren calling to a rescue or a fire

So thank god for our Fire and Rescue team who work at any hour.

And the geckos are a plenty - I hope they are here to stay

‘Cause when they enter your home- it’s lucky so they say.

And this sleepy towns a buzzing

With our flocks that come to town

And thanks to RACQ Service - when our cars are breaking down.

Our teachers play Rugby Union

They're versatile you know

And all of us are contributing - so onwards we go

We each have different rolls to fill - our economy on the grow

We can all stand proud in Ingham - we have a lot to show/.

And a man whose name is Phillip - who this history was my source

I'm loving it here in Ingham - North Queensland of course.
