What's been happening at your local library

The inaugural meeting of our new book club was held during Library and Information Week 2008. Five participants enjoyed a general discussion about their reading preferences and habits - piles of books beside beds, having several books on the go at  once and many hours of lost sleep were common stories amongst the group. Members received their first Book Club book - Things fall apart by Chinua Achebe. In addition attendees received a Library and Information Week pack which included a book bag, book journal and bookmark, all essential equipment for the avid reader. Since the launch three new members have joined the group which makes this group full bar one position. All in all a wonderful beginning to the Hinchinbrook Book Club!

Readers interested in forming a second Book Club please contact the Ingham Library and, depending on interest, serious consideration will be given to forming a second club.

National Simultaneous Storytime 2008

The Hinchinbrook Shire Library Service joined hundreds and hundreds of Libraries around the nation Wednesday, 21 May 2008 at 11am in reading Arthur, by Amanda Graham, to children form our shire. They listened to the same story at the same time as thousands of other children throughout Australia, enjoyed an Arthur craft and shared morning tea together. The Hinchinbrook Shire Library Service has participated in this event for several years now so look out for it in 2009!
