Two well-known Australian authors, Leigh Hobbs and Scot Gardner, travelled to Ingham in early May to speak with students from throughout the district about writing and being an author. Together with the Children's Book Council of Australia, (Queensland Branch), the Hinchinbrook Shire Library obtained funding from RADF to host the authors in our town. This, the second Books North Children's Literature Festival, saw the extension of author workshops to the smaller towns in the North Queensland area.

In excess of 500 students, both Primary and Secondary, from Abergowrie to Forrest Beach attended the sessions at Gilroy Santa Maria College, enjoying the speakers immensely. Laughter was heard across the sporting fields as Leigh Hobbs helped students create their own fictional characters as well as draw his own famous Old Tom and Scot Gardner told of his winning Red Faces performance and the events and observations that become the seeds for his novels. Both authors attended a book signing at the library after school and we happy to sell copies of their novels and meet some young Hinchinbrook readers.
