On
16 February, 2005 Hinchinbrook Library and the State Library of
Queensland launched online access to over 200 images of Ingham and
surrounding regions as part of the State Library’s Picture
Queensland digital image library. The Ingham community, through the
Hinchinbrook Library, is second to finish in the line up of six regional
communities participating with the State Library to digitise local image
collections and make them available via the Internet.
The other communities involved in this state-wide project are
Atherton, Barcaldine, Biloela, Chinchilla and Gympie.
The
majority of images contributed by Hinchinbrook Library document the
Kennedy Regiment (31st Infantry Battalion).
The Regiment drew its members primarily from the North Queensland
areas of Ingham, Townsville, Burdekin and
Charters
Towers
. The images cover a range
of years from pre-1910, World War I, the interwar years and World War
II. Ingham’s contribution is part of Picture
Queensland, located at
www.pictureqld.slq.qld.gov.au,
providing access to over 15,000 images of Queensland that are historic,
stunning, poignant, fascinating and even humorous.
